OnePlus shutdown confirmed in select global markets, including Europe. Focus shifts to mid-range smartphones in India. Latest updates here.
Rumors about an OnePlus shutdown in major global markets have resurfaced, sparking concern among users and industry watchers. Although former OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu had earlier dismissed such reports, recent media coverage suggests the smartphone brand may indeed be scaling back operations in select regions.
According to a report by 9to5Google, citing a source close to the company, OnePlus will halt operations in certain global markets, with large parts of Europe likely to be affected. The OnePlus shutdown is expected to focus the brand’s resources on entry- and mid-range smartphones in India, while China operations remain unaffected.
Internet tipster Yogesh Brar had previously claimed in a now-deleted social media post that the OnePlus shutdown would impact the US, UK, and European customers. “OnePlus is shutting down in select global markets. China business will stay unaffected. India market will mostly get budget & mid-range products,” Brar wrote.
The report further indicates that the OnePlus shutdown process may start from April 2026. Selected employees have reportedly been informed in advance, with some receiving severance packages. This is not the first time OnePlus has reduced its European presence; in 2020, the company scaled back operations in the UK, Germany, and other European offices following co-founder Carl Pei’s exit.

Robin Liu Resignation Adds Fuel to Speculation
The timing of the OnePlus shutdown news coincides with Robin Liu’s departure from OnePlus. Liu resigned from his role as CEO of OnePlus India to “pursue his personal passions,” leaving the company at a transitional stage. OnePlus confirmed that local operations in India will continue with strategic continuity, even as Liu serves his notice period until 31 March 2026.
Liu had joined OnePlus in 2018 and led multiple markets, including North America and India. Under his leadership, the company faced challenges, including a sharp decline in shipments—Cybermedia Research reported a 32% drop in 2025, while IDC estimated a 38.8% YoY decline.
OnePlus India Focus Amid Global Retrenchment
Despite setbacks abroad, OnePlus is doubling down on India with mid-range offerings. The company recently launched the OnePlus 15, OnePlus 15R, and OnePlus Pad Go 2. Future flagship plans, including the OnePlus Open 2 foldable and the OnePlus 15s compact flagship, may have been shelved due to ongoing supply chain issues and fierce market competition.
Industry experts suggest that the OnePlus shutdown in Europe and other global markets is part of a broader strategy to concentrate on profitable segments in India. The upcoming launch of the OnePlus Nord 6, a mid-range smartphone, signals the company’s focus on value-driven devices.
With the OnePlus shutdown looming, European and US users may see reduced availability of devices and limited after-sales support. Meanwhile, the brand continues to maintain a strong presence in China and India, where the mid-range segment remains highly competitive.
