PM Modi Says Fast-Track Courts Will Expedite Adjudication of Paper Leak Cases
Amid the continuing NEET paper leak controversy and sustained student demonstrations demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities, PM Modi on Thursday announced that paper leak cases across the country will be referred to fast-track courts to facilitate expeditious adjudication and legal proceedings against those found guilty.
In a statement posted on X, PM Modi said safeguarding the interests of the country’s youth and preserving the integrity of competitive examinations remain among the government’s priorities. He added that directions have been issued to the concerned departments to initiate the process for establishing fast-track courts dedicated to the speedy disposal of paper leak cases.
“The welfare of the youth of the country and their future is our top priority. To ensure that the culprits in all paper leak cases are punished as soon as possible, fast-track courts will be set up for speedy disposal of cases. Instructions have been given to the concerned departments to ensure necessary action,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi’s Announcement Comes Against the Backdrop of Ongoing NEET Protests
The announcement comes against the backdrop of continuing protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where students have been demonstrating over the alleged NEET paper leak and demanding institutional accountability for examination-related irregularities. Protesters have also sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, while several opposition parties have extended support to the demonstrations.
According to PM Modi, the proposed fast-track courts are intended to ensure that cases involving examination malpractice are adjudicated without undue delay. However, the Centre is yet to outline the operational framework, jurisdictional scope, implementation timeline or procedural mechanism through which the proposed courts will function.
The NEET paper leak controversy has triggered a wider debate over the credibility of India’s competitive examination system, with students and stakeholders calling for stronger institutional safeguards against examination malpractice and greater transparency in recruitment and admission processes.
While PM Modi has announced the proposed judicial mechanism as part of the Centre’s response, further details regarding its implementation remain awaited. It also remains to be seen whether the fast-track courts will exclusively handle future paper leak cases or include matters that are currently pending before various courts. The announcement comes as investigations, legal proceedings and student-led protests linked to the alleged NEET paper leak continue across multiple states.
