During the event, PM Modi also held a roadshow, with thousands of people lining the streets, raising slogans in their support.
PM Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the newly constructed six-lane Ganga bridge between Aunta (Mokama) and Simaria (Begusarai) in Begusarai district by cutting the ribbon. The project spans 8.15 km, including a 1.865 km long bridge across the Ganga. After the inauguration, both leaders inspected the new bridge. A grand cultural program was organized to welcome the Prime Minister, and a large crowd gathered near the site to greet PM Modi and CM Kumar, who responded by waving.
Built at a cost of ₹1,871 crore parallel to the old Rajendra Setu, this world-class bridge provides modern road connectivity between North and South Bihar. Earlier, with heavy vehicles barred from the aging Rajendra Setu, transport required a 100 km detour. Now, the journey is reduced to just 8 km, saving both time and fuel, and lowering logistics costs.
The new bridge will boost local industries such as IOCL Refinery, Barauni Thermal Power Station, Barauni Sudha Dairy, and Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited. It will also improve market access for local produce like makhana, bananas, milk, and maize, thereby driving economic growth and creating new employment opportunities across districts including Supaul, Madhubani, Araria, Begusarai, Sheikhpura, Nawada, and Lakhisarai.
