On the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, Hon’ble Prime Minister Modi will visit Jamui, Bihar, on 15th November 2024, marking the commencement of the 150th Birth Anniversary Year celebrations of Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, a towering figure in the freedom struggle and an iconic leader for tribal empowerment.
In this regard, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram addressed a press conference in Jamui today.
Union minister said, Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India declared November 15th — the birthday of the revered tribal freedom fighter Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda — as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas in 2021.
This day is dedicated to honoring the bravery, sacrifices, and contributions of tribal freedom fighters who played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence, ensuring future generations recognize and cherish this vital part of our history.
Hon’ble Prime Minister Modi has continuously highlighted the contributions of tribal heroes, especially in his Mann Ki Baat addresses and during his Independence Day speech on August 15, 2016, when he announced the construction of tribal freedom fighter museums across the country. To date, 11 such museums have been sanctioned.
Notably, the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Freedom Fighter Museum in Ranchi was inaugurated in 2021, further cementing the legacy of this great tribal leader.
In a historic first, on Janjatiya Gaurav Divas 2023, Prime Minister Modi visited the birthplace of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and launched two key initiatives — the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) and the Viksit Bharat Abhiyan, both designed to empower and advance tribal communities across the nation.
Additionally, the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Utkarsh Gram Abhiyan, launched last month, is a holistic development program for over 63,000 tribal-dominated villages, further reaffirming the government’s commitment to uplifting tribal communities and preserving their rich cultural heritage.
As the nation celebrates the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Janjatiya Gaurav Divas 2024 will be celebrated nationwide through a whole-of-government approach and the spirit of Janbhagidari (people’s participation), honoring the resilience, pride, and spirit of India’s tribal heroes.
The visit will be an important milestone in the government’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of tribal communities, with an emphasis on the Janbhagidari (people’s participation) model and a Whole of Government approach, ensuring the holistic development of tribal regions. This approach brings together central and state governments, in collaboration with various stakeholders, to drive inclusive growth and sustainable development.
