Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched ‘Project Ganga’, an ambitious initiative aimed at expanding high-speed broadband internet connectivity across rural regions of the state. The project was officially inaugurated on Tuesday from the Chief Minister’s residence at 5 Kalidas Marg in Lucknow.
The initiative is designed to strengthen digital infrastructure and ensure that high-speed internet services reach villages over the next three years, marking a major step toward rural digital transformation in Uttar Pradesh.
Broadband Connectivity as a Development Priority
Addressing a meeting during the launch, CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized that broadband connectivity has become a basic necessity in today’s digital era. He stated that faster internet speed directly contributes to faster development and brings visible improvements in people’s quality of life.
He highlighted that the Uttar Pradesh government had already announced plans in its 2025–26 budget to promote digital empowerment by supporting 8,000 digital entrepreneurs, with 50% participation from women. According to him, Project Ganga will play a key role in achieving this vision.

Meaning Behind ‘Project Ganga’
CM Yogi explained that the project is named “Ganga,” which stands for Government Assisted Network for Growth and Advancement. He drew a symbolic connection to the River Ganga, stating that just as it has historically supported prosperity and sustenance in North India, the initiative aims to promote growth, unity, and self-reliance.
He added that the project aligns with the broader vision of building a self-reliant India through strong digital infrastructure.
Internet Access for 20 Lakh Households
According to official claims, Project Ganga will provide high-speed internet access to nearly 2 million households across Uttar Pradesh. The initiative is expected to significantly improve access to online education, healthcare services, e-governance, and digital commerce in rural areas.
Boost to Employment and Rural Economy
The project is also projected to generate substantial employment opportunities in the state. Experts suggest that improved internet connectivity could help integrate rural communities into the digital economy, creating new avenues for entrepreneurship and skill development.
