Punjab: In several parts of Punjab, sporadic rains on Wednesday provided relief from the intense heat, while in many other regions, the average maximum temperature on Thursday fell by six degrees.
Patiala: The average maximum temperature on Thursday decreased by six degrees in various locations in Punjab as a result of sporadic rainfall that fell on Wednesday in many areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that during the previous day, little rain fell in certain areas of the state.
On Wednesday evening, Rupnagar reported the highest amount of rainfall in the state, 20.1 mm, followed by Bathinda (12. 6 mm) and Barnala (12.5 mm).
Earlier, the state had experienced extremely hot weather, with daytime highs of 43 to 46 degrees Celsius in numerous locations.
The highest temperature on Thursday was 36.1 degrees in Amritsar, 35.7 in Ludhiana, 36.6 in Patiala, 33.6 in Bathinda, and 39.8 in Pathankot. The highest recorded temperature in Faridkot was 36.8 degrees Celsius.
Punjab’s hottest spot was Gurdaspur, when temperatures reached as high as 41 degrees Celsius.
The next five days would not see any heatwave conditions over the state, according to the IMD prediction. An IMD official stated, “The maximum temperature will not change until June 24.”
According to experts, the previous day’s mild to moderate rainfall will also benefit paddy growers. Experts said that less groundwater would be used for irrigation as a result of the rainfall.
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has also experienced some respite from the temperature drop (PSPCL). Punjab’s peak electricity consumption decreased from 16,078 MW on Wednesday to 15,200 MW on Thursday.
According to AK Singh, Director of IMD in Chandigarh, the monsoon is expected to arrive by the end of the month.
