Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann visits Golden Temple on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary, prays for peace in Punjab, and urges Centre to reopen Kartarpur Corridor and resume India-Pakistan trade for economic growth.
On the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar to pay obeisance and prayed for peace, harmony, and progress in the state. Accompanied by his wife, Gurpreet Kaur, CM Mann highlighted the importance of resuming people-to-people ties with Pakistan through the Kartarpur Corridor.
Addressing the media, Mann emphasized that the Centre should proactively reopen the Kartarpur Corridor, instead of waiting for requests. “Now cricket matches are being played with Pakistan, yet devotees can only spend 4-5 hours at Kartarpur Sahib. The Home Ministry and External Affairs Ministry must reopen the corridor for seamless access,” he stated.
CM Mann also stressed the need to resume trade between India and Pakistan via Attari-Wagah route, highlighting its potential to create jobs and expand economic opportunities for lakhs of people in Punjab. “Trade with Pakistan continues through Gujarat. People on both sides want peace. Our trade and employment prospects will grow once the corridor and trade resume,” he added.
The Kartarpur Corridor links Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, to the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district. India had temporarily closed the corridor following tensions with Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
CM Mann’s visit underscored the state’s commitment to fostering peace, religious harmony, and economic growth while ensuring the spiritual needs of Sikh devotees are respected and facilitated.
