CM Bhagwant Mann
After losing the Lok Sabha seat of Sangrur in 2022, the AAP is making every effort to take back this seat from SAD (Amritsar).
The effort to retake the seat that he himself represented from 2014 to 22 is being spearheaded by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann against the current Member of Parliament. Here this morning was a critical meeting to deliberate on the party’s Sangrur strategy, attended by all of his party’s MLAs and ministers representing the Assembly segments.
PUNJAB CM BHAGWANT MANN ON THE BAIL OF SANJAY SINGH
Simranjit Singh Mann, the leader of SAD (Amritsar), became victorious in the Sangrur bypoll, which was required following Bhagwant Mann’s resignation as MP upon becoming Chief Minister. Considering that the byelection was held just three months after the Assembly election, it was a somewhat embarrassing loss for the state’s ruling party. In March 2022, the AAP emerged victorious, securing 92 out of 117 seats. Additionally, the loss was unexpected because, in the three months following the party’s ascent to power, the percentage of votes cast in favor of the party decreased by 2.6%, despite the AAP holding representation in all nine Sangrur constituencies, including Dhuri, which is represented by CM Mann. It’s interesting to note that the AAP only won one Lok Sabha seat in 2019.
The party has tipped Sports Minister and Barnala MLA Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer to win the next Lok Sabha election. For nearly two hours, Mann and party candidate Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer were joined by all of the party’s MLAs from Sangrur, Harpal Cheema (Dirba), Aman Arora (Sunam), Narinder Kaur Bharaj (Sangrur), Labh Singh Ugoke (Bhadaur), Kulwant Singh Pandori (Mehal Kalan), and Mohammad Jamil Ur Rehman (Malerkotla).
According to reports, the Chief Minister instructed the MLAs to visit every village in the Sangrur constituency with the government’s good agenda. They were requested to improve their public relations and inform voters on a regular basis on government hiring, free electricity for domestic homes, mohalla clinics, and Schools of Eminence.
This is MLAs’ second meeting under Mann’s direction. Following the detention of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and the subsequent “poaching” of its leaders, the AAP started holding one-on-one meetings between small groups of its MLAs and the chief minister and state party president yesterday. The discussions are also intended to gather input and create a polling plan for these two Lok Sabha seats.
