Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann to meet President in Delhi over political crisis after AAP MPs defect to BJP. Mann may push for Right to Recall demand.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has departed for New Delhi along with several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs as the state’s political landscape witnesses heightened tensions following the defection of six Rajya Sabha MPs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to official sources, Chief Minister Mann is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu at 12 noon on Tuesday. The meeting comes at a time when AAP is facing a significant setback in Punjab politics due to the sudden shift in allegiance by its Rajya Sabha representatives.
Demand for “Right to Recall” Likely to Be Raised
During the interaction with the President, CM Bhagwant Mann is expected to strongly advocate for the introduction of a “Right to Recall” mechanism for Members of Parliament who change political parties after being elected. The Chief Minister is likely to argue that such defections undermine public trust and betray the mandate given by voters.
The Punjab government is also expected to highlight the broader implications of political defections on democratic accountability and electoral integrity.
