The Punjab government has given a major push to its anti-drug efforts by finalizing a ₹42.95 crore state action plan under the Punjab Drug Prevention Scheme for the financial year 2026-27. The initiative aims to strengthen awareness, treatment, and rehabilitation measures across the state.
Focus on Awareness Under Punjab Drug Prevention Scheme
Cabinet Minister Baljit Kaur reviewed the plan and directed all concerned departments to ensure effective implementation. She stated that the primary objective of the Punjab Drug Prevention Scheme is to educate youth and citizens about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote a healthy lifestyle.
Large-scale awareness campaigns will be conducted across Punjab, especially targeting schools, colleges, and rural areas, to ensure wider reach and impact.
Strengthening Treatment and Rehabilitation Services
The scheme places strong emphasis on improving treatment facilities and rehabilitation services for individuals affected by drug addiction. Existing centers will be upgraded, and access to care will be expanded to ensure that more people receive timely support.
