Punjab promotes DSR technology under CM Bhagwant Mann to support water-saving farming, targeting 5 lakh acres for sustainable agriculture growth.
Punjab has taken a major step towards sustainable agriculture by expanding the adoption of DSR technology (Direct Seeded Rice) across the state. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the government is focusing on water conservation, reduced cultivation costs, and improved farmer income through modern farming methods.
The initiative highlights the state’s commitment to replacing traditional paddy transplantation with efficient and eco-friendly farming practices using DSR technology.
5 Lakh Acre Target for 2026-27 Under DSR Technology
The Punjab government has set an ambitious target of bringing 5 lakh acres under DSR technology for the 2026-27 agricultural cycle. To support this transition, the state has announced financial assistance of around ₹40 crore.
This support is aimed at encouraging more farmers to adopt DSR technology, ensuring large-scale implementation of sustainable farming practices across Punjab.

Strong Farmer Participation in Previous Season
During the last kharif season, 23,410 farmers adopted technology, covering approximately 2,35,899 acres of paddy cultivation.
To encourage adoption, the government provided financial assistance of ₹1,500 per acre, distributing a total of ₹35.38 crore to farmers. This growing participation reflects increasing trust in technology as a reliable farming method.
Water Saving and Cost Reduction Benefits
Agricultural experts suggest that technology helps save nearly 15 to 20 percent of water compared to traditional methods. It also reduces labor and input costs, making farming more economical and efficient.
By adopting technology, farmers can achieve better profitability while contributing to long-term water conservation in the state.
Government’s Vision for Modern Agriculture
According to the state administration led by Bhagwant Mann, the expansion of technology is a key step towards modernizing Punjab’s agricultural sector.
The government aims to improve farmer income, reduce dependency on water-intensive practices, and promote environmentally sustainable agriculture through widespread use of DSR technology.
