As part of the Punjab Government’s “Yudh Nashiyan Virudh” campaign, Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond, who oversees Rural Development, Panchayats, Industries, Commerce, Investment Promotion, Labour, Tourism, and Cultural Affairs, held a special meeting with civil and police administration officials in Moga district. He reaffirmed that Punjab has no place for drug traffickers who are endangering the state’s youth.
Declaring the government’s unwavering commitment, Mr. Sond emphasized that the Punjab Government will not stop until the state is completely drug-free. He instructed officials to develop a comprehensive plan to eradicate drugs in Moga, alongside launching awareness campaigns in schools and colleges to educate students about the dangers of substance abuse.
He stressed the importance of collective efforts under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, urging village panchayats to take proactive steps in raising awareness. He also highlighted the role of street plays in educating communities and called for better coordination between civil and police administrations.
Calling drug eradication a social responsibility, Mr. Sond urged district officials to work with full dedication, encouraging panchayats to engage the public in reporting drug traffickers while ensuring informants’ confidentiality. He also appealed to families to seek help for addicted members at government-run de-addiction centers, assuring them of full rehabilitation support.
Issuing a strong warning to drug peddlers, he declared, “Either quit the drug trade or leave Punjab.” He highlighted the government’s firm stance, including the seizure and demolition of illegally acquired properties of traffickers to deter others.
Deputy Commissioner Moga, Sagar Setia, informed the Minister about the state’s ongoing anti-drug measures, including strengthening rehabilitation centers and introducing skill development programs to reintegrate rehabilitated individuals into society. He also reiterated the importance of the government’s anti-drug helpline (9779100200) for anonymous tip-offs.
SSP Moga, Ajay Gandhi, briefed the Minister on the relentless crackdown against major drug networks, assuring that law enforcement, with public support, will dismantle the entire drug ecosystem.
Addressing the media, Mr. Sond reaffirmed that eliminating drugs from Punjab was a key commitment of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government. He shared significant achievements of the “Yudh Nashiyan Virudh” campaign, which began on March 1, 2025, including:
- 1,651 FIRs registered
- 2,575 arrests made
- 95.264 kg of heroin seized
- 1,128 kg of poppy husk confiscated
- 52.316 kg of opium recovered
- 16 kg of marijuana seized
- 4.632 kg of hashish recovered
- 7,25,666 intoxicating pills confiscated
- 1,733 liters of illicit liquor seized
- ₹64.26 lakh in drug money recovered
- 279 intoxicating injections confiscated
He assured that the Punjab Government has given full authority to law enforcement to take strict action against drug traffickers without political interference.
During his visit, Mr. Sond was honored with a Guard of Honor at the District Administrative Complex by Punjab Police.
