Punjab Government announces that the Rajpura–Sehra–Akkar road in Patiala will be named Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Link Road to honour the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
In a move aimed at honoring Punjab’s spiritual and historical heritage, the Punjab Government has announced that a 13.15-kilometer road in Patiala district will soon be named Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Link Road. The decision has been taken to pay tribute to the legacy and sacrifice of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur.
The announcement was made in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian while responding to a question raised by MLA Gurlal Singh Ghanaur. The minister informed the House that the state government is working on the formal process to designate the route as Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Link Road in recognition of the Guru’s contribution to humanity and religious freedom.
According to the minister, the road connects Rajpura town with Sehra village and further extends from Sehra to Akkar village. Akkar is known for the presence of the historic Gurudwara Nimm Sahib, which attracts devotees from across the region. Naming this important route Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Link Road is expected to strengthen the spiritual significance of the area while preserving Punjab’s rich heritage.

Khudian further stated that the initiative reflects the commitment of the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to respect and preserve the teachings of Sikh Gurus. He noted that the proposed Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Link Road will serve as a reminder of the Guru’s sacrifice and dedication to protecting the rights and beliefs of people.
The minister also clarified that certain administrative procedures must be completed before the official naming takes place. Formal resolutions from the concerned Gram Panchayats will first be obtained, followed by an official recommendation from the Deputy Commissioner of Patiala. Once these steps are completed, the government will issue the final notification declaring the route as Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Link Road.
Reiterating the significance of the decision, Khudian said the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur stands as one of the greatest examples of courage and sacrifice in Indian history. By naming this route Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Link Road, the Punjab Government aims to inspire future generations to remember the values of faith, tolerance, and humanity that the Guru upheld throughout his life.
The government believes that such initiatives not only preserve the state’s historical identity but also strengthen public awareness about the contributions of Sikh Gurus to society and the nation.
