Chandigarh: In a significant step towards sustainable development, Punjab has intensified its Punjab Green Energy Push with plans to solarise some of the state’s most iconic landmarks, including Virasat-e-Khalsa and Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal. The initiative is being undertaken under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann as part of the government’s commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure.
18.6 MW Solar Capacity Planned Across 661 Government Buildings
As part of the Punjab Green Energy Push, the state government is setting up 18.6 MW solar power plants across 661 government buildings. The ambitious project aims to reduce dependence on conventional electricity sources while increasing the share of clean energy in public infrastructure.
The solar installations are expected to generate substantial savings in electricity expenditure and contribute to Punjab’s long-term energy security goals.
Review Meeting Focuses on Fast-Tracking Renewable Energy Projects
Sharing details of the initiative, Aman Arora reviewed the progress of ongoing renewable energy projects and directed the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) to accelerate implementation.
The review highlighted the government’s determination to ensure that the Punjab Green Energy Push delivers tangible results within a defined timeline, benefiting both citizens and public institutions.
Three Lakh Solar Street Lights to Be Installed in Six Months
A major highlight of the review meeting was the directive to install three lakh solar street lights within six months. This initiative is expected to improve energy efficiency, enhance public lighting infrastructure, and reduce electricity consumption across urban and rural areas.
The solar street lighting project further strengthens the Punjab Green Energy Push by promoting the use of renewable energy at the grassroots level.
Clean Energy Adoption to Reduce Bills and Carbon Emissions
The large-scale solarisation drive is expected to significantly lower power bills for government establishments while reducing carbon emissions. By replacing conventional energy sources with solar power, Punjab aims to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
