Harpal Singh Cheema: The Punjab government has significantly intensified its campaign against drug abuse across the state, describing it as a comprehensive “war against drugs” rather than a routine law enforcement exercise. The administration emphasized that the initiative combines strict action against offenders with social reform measures.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is fully committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks operating in the region. He made it clear that no one involved in the drug trade will be spared.

The ongoing “War Against Drugs” campaign focuses on breaking the supply chain of narcotics and ensuring strict legal action against traffickers. Police and administrative agencies are working in coordination to identify and eliminate such networks at every level.

Officials said the policy is part of the Aam Aadmi Party’s governance model, which aims to strengthen law enforcement while also building a healthier and drug-free society.

Meanwhile, political debate over the issue has intensified, with opposition parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), raising concerns over the effectiveness of the government’s strategy. However, the government maintains that large-scale enforcement actions are being carried out and visible results are already emerging on the ground.

Authorities further stated that the campaign is not limited to policing alone. It also includes awareness drives, educational programs in schools and colleges, and strengthening rehabilitation services for those affected by addiction.

Special monitoring has been increased in vulnerable areas to prevent youth from falling into drug abuse, while continuous outreach programs are being conducted to promote awareness and prevention.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Harpal Singh Cheema said that Punjab’s ultimate goal is to become a completely drug-free state. He added that efforts across prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation will continue without any compromise, and strict action against drug traffickers will remain a top priority.
