Punjab Government’s Mahila Udyami Samman Program honours 11,700 women entrepreneurs across 117 constituencies; top 100 to receive ₹25,000 awards on March 18.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Punjab Government has launched the Mahila Udyami Samman Program, an innovative initiative aimed at promoting women entrepreneurship and economic empowerment. The program has received an overwhelming response from women across the state, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering self-reliance among women through entrepreneurship.
Under the Mahila Udyami Samman Program, approximately 11,700 women entrepreneurs across 117 Assembly constituencies were honoured in the first phase, held from March 2 to March 6. Women working in diverse sectors, including small businesses, home-based enterprises, agriculture-related ventures, and various service industries, received recognition for their remarkable contributions and achievements. Each constituency celebrated 100 women entrepreneurs, highlighting their efforts toward financial independence and leadership in their communities.
The program has seen over 28,000 nominations submitted through the Punjab State Rural Livelihood Mission (PSRLM) portal, demonstrating the increasing participation of women in entrepreneurship and their determination to become financially independent. This large number of nominations underscores the growing influence of women in Punjab’s economic landscape.

The recognition under the Mahila Udyami Samman Program is being carried out in multiple stages. After the constituency-level recognition of 11,700 women, 2,300 women will be selected for district-level honours across 23 districts. At the district level, 100 women from each district will be awarded for their exceptional contributions.
The program will culminate in a state-level ceremony on March 18, where Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will honour the top 100 women entrepreneurs from across Punjab. Each of these outstanding women will receive a cash award of ₹25,000, recognizing their entrepreneurial achievements and dedication to fostering economic growth.
The Mahila Udyami Samman Program is not limited to celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8 but is part of a month-long series of initiatives aimed at promoting women’s empowerment throughout Punjab. Through programs like this, the government seeks to inspire more women to enter entrepreneurship, drive economic change, and become leaders in their communities.
The initiative has been widely praised for its efforts to recognize women’s contributions to Punjab’s economy and for motivating thousands of others to pursue self-reliance, innovation, and entrepreneurial excellence.
