PUNJAB NEWS : The Punjab Horticulture Department recently held a two-day State-Level Pear Show and Seminar at Maharaja Farm in Amritsar district. The event was officially inaugurated by Shri Mohinder Bhagat, Minister for Defence Services Welfare, Freedom Fighters, and Horticulture, Punjab, who attended as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Shri Bhagat highlighted the state government’s dedicated efforts to strengthen the horticulture sector and boost farmers’ incomes. He noted that events like the pear show are key initiatives in this direction. Such exhibitions and seminars not only enhance farmers’ technical knowledge but also help them connect with markets, thus contributing to their economic empowerment.

The Minister also pointed out that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government has ensured regular canal water supply to agricultural fields—providing a major boost to horticultural activities across Punjab. He also assured the attending farmers that their concerns would be addressed promptly by the department.
Deputy Director Horticulture, Amritsar, Shri Tajinder Singh Sandhu shared that the event received 714 entries featuring high-quality pears and value-added fruit products from various districts. Amritsar district performed exceptionally well, bagging 28 awards. Winners were presented with first and second prizes by the Chief Guest.
In addition to the competition, the venue hosted several departmental exhibitions, and experts from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana provided guidance on pear farming techniques and marketing approaches.
The event was graced by key officials including SDM Shri Gursimran Singh Dhillon, Assistant Director Horticulture Shri Jatinder Singh Sandhu, and officers Sukhpal Singh, Harvinder Singh, Tejbir Singh, Kiranbir Kaur, and Harpreet Kaur, along with other staff who contributed significantly to the event’s success.
