PUNJAB NEWS : In line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s commitment to providing prompt and hassle-free citizen services, Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema announced on Wednesday that, following the Revenue Department, the Transport Department has also been instructed to clear all overdue citizen-related service requests by April 25, 2025, through a focused campaign.
Speaking at a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, Cheema stated that Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has directed Transport Department officials to resolve backlogs related to services such as Vahan and Sarathi by the set deadline. He assured that after April 25, all services will be delivered strictly within the designated timeframes.
Highlighting the Transport Department’s ongoing reforms, the Finance Minister shared that 20 services are currently being delivered at citizens’ doorsteps through the 1076 call center and Sewa Kendras, reducing the need for visits to RTO offices. He further revealed that all such services will soon be fully transitioned to E-Sewa Kendras (via 1076), eliminating the need for in-person visits. Additionally, a WhatsApp Chatbot will be launched shortly to enable completely faceless and convenient service delivery.
Stressing the importance of accountability, Cheema mentioned that senior Transport Department officials, including the State Transport Commissioner, will regularly review service delivery progress to prevent delays. Strict action will be taken against officials responsible for any unwarranted delays.
He concluded by emphasizing that these steps reflect the state government’s commitment to using technology and innovation to improve governance and citizen satisfaction, with a focus on setting new standards in efficient and citizen-first service delivery.
