PUNJAB NEWS : Malwinder Singh Jaggi, Secretary, Information and Public Relations Department and an IAS officer of 2005 batch of Punjab cadre, is retiring on March 31 after 33 years of illustrious service. Born in Patiala in an educated and intellectual family, Shri Jaggi’s father Dr. Rattan Singh Jaggi is a renowned Sikh scholar. Jaggi was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of the country, by the Government of India for his literary achievements. The inspiring and literary atmosphere of the house taught Malvinder Singh Jaggi good qualities and commitment from childhood. After receiving his early education from Patiala, Shri Jaggi pursued higher education in engineering from the prestigious engineering college of his time, G.N.E. Ludhiana.
In 1992, Malvinder Singh Jaggi became a PCS officer after passing the state’s top civil service examination. While rendering outstanding services as a Civil Officer, he was promoted as an I.A.S. Officer of 2005 batch. During his illustrious career spanning over three decades, he served in the field as S.D.M. of Ludhiana, A.D.C of Fatehgarh Sahib, Mansa and Pathankot, Commissioner of Municipal Corporations Ludhiana and Amritsar and Deputy Commissioner of Faridkot district. While working in these posts, he gained popularity due to his efficient services by understanding the needs of the public. The people of Faridkot still remember his services in organizing the world famous Baba Sheikh Farid Aagman Parv twice during his tenure in the historic district of Faridkot. He always gave priority to solving the problems of the people on priority basis and reducing the hassles of the people in government offices.
Apart from field postings, Malvinder Singh Jaggi achieved many important goals with his administrative efficiency while serving at the headquarters in various departments. During the grand events held throughout the year to mark the 550th Parkash Purab of the first Patashah Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, he oversaw the management of these celebrations as the Chief Executive Officer. Apart from Sultanpur Lodhi and Dera Baba Nanak, he personally supervised the events held in various parts of the country including Punjab and played a key role in the successful completion of all these religious and historical events.
Malwinder Singh Jaggi served as Director in various departments such as Transport, Social Security and Justice, Culture and Tourism, besides serving as Chief Executive Officer of Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board and Chief Administrator of PUDA. Shri Jaggi left a deep impression while serving as Secretary, Information and Public Relations, Civil Aviation, Public Works Department, Culture and Tourism, Animal Husbandry and Agriculture Department as Administrative Secretary. During this time, he also served as the Chairman of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) and headed this important body for the planned urban development of the state.
Malvinder Singh Jaggi, presently serving as Secretary, Department of Information and Public Relations, retired on March 31 after 33 years of illustrious civil administrative service.
