PUNJAB NEWS : Punjab SC Commission Chairman Urges DGP to Strengthen Security for Dr. Ambedkar’s Statues
Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission Chairman, S. Jasvir Singh Garhi, has written a DO letter to the state police chief, requesting enhanced security for the statues of Baba Sahib Dr. B.R. Ambedkar across the state.
Garhi highlighted a recent incident in Nangal village, Phillaur tehsil, where anti-national slogans were inscribed on a statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar. Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has allegedly claimed responsibility for the act through a video release. In response, Garhi urged authorities to register a sedition case against Pannu under the SC/ST Act, 1989, issue a Red Corner Notice against him, and bring him back to India through central agencies to face legal action, ensuring a strict and exemplary punishment.
Additionally, Garhi called on the state police to install CCTV cameras and bolster security around Dr. Ambedkar’s statues at various locations to prevent such incidents in the future. He warned that repeated occurrences of such acts could disrupt communal harmony in Punjab, leading to potential economic and social repercussions.
