PUNJAB NEWS : Arvind Kejriwal, former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convener, has announced a major campaign against drug abuse in Punjab, set to begin on April 1. Addressing a massive gathering at Indoor Stadium, he declared that over three crore Punjabis would unite to eliminate drug smugglers destroying the state’s future.
He urged every citizen to join the fight against drugs, with party workers visiting villages to root out the menace. Kejriwal also launched an anti-drug helpline (9779100200), ensuring anonymity for informants while promising strict action against smugglers. Additionally, a statewide drug census will be conducted to assess the extent of drug abuse, with teams visiting households to gather data while keeping victims’ identities confidential.
To steer youth away from drugs, Kejriwal announced plans to establish playgrounds and gyms in every village. He also revealed that 5,000 new Home Guards are being recruited to strengthen border security. Criticizing past governments, he accused former ministers of shielding mafias for personal gain and failing to curb drug trade.
Kejriwal emphasized that the current government is taking decisive steps, including jailing drug lords, cutting supply chains, and seizing smugglers’ properties. He assured that even influential figures involved in the drug trade would face justice. The state will also deploy anti-drone technology to curb drug smuggling from Pakistan, which accounts for 70% of the inflow.
He condemned recent grenade attacks as attempts by anti-national forces to destabilize Punjab and warned that his government would not tolerate such activities. Highlighting ongoing reforms, Kejriwal mentioned the transformation of Ludhiana’s civil hospital and the government’s commitment to corruption-free land registry services. He also announced the issuance of Sehat cards for free healthcare to those without Ayushman cards, promising more welfare initiatives in the coming months.
