PUNJAB NEWS : The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the drug smuggling case against Bikram Singh Majithia has broadened its probe to examine financial transactions linked to foreign entities, SIT member and senior IPS officer Varun Sharma announced during a press conference at Police Lines today.
Sharma stated that, as per the Supreme Court’s directive, Majithia has already been questioned and is set to be interrogated again on March 18. He disclosed that the SIT has detected suspicious financial transactions involving firms connected to Majithia and his family, who have been named in the case. Large cash deposits were reportedly made into these firms during the period of the alleged offenses, with links also traced to overseas companies.
The SIT is actively pursuing three accused individuals residing abroad and has initiated efforts to bring them back, including issuing Blue Corner Notices. Sharma emphasized that all domestic and international financial transactions related to the case are under thorough scrutiny.
Reiterating the Punjab government’s firm stance against drugs under and DGP Gaurav Yadav, Sharma assured that all cases under the NDPS Act are being handled with utmost seriousness. He affirmed that the SIT’s investigation is progressing in-depth and that further action will be taken based on its findings.
Majithia has been summoned again for questioning on March 18, and the SIT remains committed to ensuring that all accused are brought to justice, Sharma added.
