In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of Punjab, as envisioned by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, in collaboration with Central Agencies and Delhi Police, have arrested Saidul Ameen — the main accused in the grenade attack on BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia’s residence, said Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.
The grenade explosion took place on the night of April 7 at Kalia’s home in Central Town, Jalandhar. Early investigations pointed to a broader conspiracy led by Pakistan’s ISI, aimed at disturbing communal peace in the state.
This arrest follows the earlier apprehension of two local accomplices — Satish alias Kaka alias Lucky from Bhargo Camp and Harry from Garha Road, both from Jalandhar — who had extended logistical support to Ameen. The attack was orchestrated by Zeeshan Akhtar, an associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and Pakistan-based ISI-backed gangster Shahzad Bhatti. The potential involvement of the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) is also under investigation.
During a press conference in Jalandhar, DGP Yadav, alongside Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur, revealed that Ameen, a resident of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested in Delhi following an extensive multi-state operation. He emphasized that this success reflects the strong cooperation between Punjab Police, Delhi Police, and central agencies in cracking down on terror networks.
Further investigation has uncovered financial links connected to the attack. One such link involves Abhijot, a suspect from Haryana who was arrested by Haryana Police after a brief encounter in Kurukshetra. He will be brought to Punjab on a production warrant for further questioning.
DGP Yadav stated that the probe continues to identify handlers, financial sources, and any international connections involved in the plot.
An FIR (No. 27 dated April 8, 2025) has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosive Substances Act at Division No. 3 Police Station in Jalandhar.
