In a major push to overhaul the state’s infrastructure, the Punjab Government has intensified its “Mission Infrastructure,” targeting the completion and repair of 45,000 kilometers of roads across the state by June 30, 2026.
Punjab Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO personally spearheaded the campaign today, conducting a high-level inspection in the Mohali region. Accompanied by senior officials, the Minister reviewed the progress of ongoing projects, emphasizing that the state is working on a “war footing” to meet the fast-approaching deadline.
100 Hot-Mix Plants Operating at Full Capacity
To ensure the rapid pace of construction, the Minister revealed that 100 hot-mix plants are currently operational across Punjab. These plants are functioning at peak capacity to supply the necessary materials for bituminous works.
“Our priority is to utilize the current favorable weather conditions to the maximum,” Minister ETO stated. “The department is now renovating and strengthening more than 100 km of roads daily to ensure we cross the finish line by June 30.”

Strict Directives: Early Morning Shifts & Quality Control
Citing the rise in temperatures and the upcoming monsoon season, the Cabinet Minister instructed officials to start construction work early in the morning. This move is intended to ensure labor efficiency and the technical integrity of the road-laying process under optimal thermal conditions.
Key highlights from the Minister’s visit include:
Zero Tolerance for Substandard Work: A clear warning was issued to contractors; if any road sustains damage within the 5-year maintenance period, the contractor will be held liable for all repairs.
Technological Innovation: Punjab is leveraging Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) technology for the first time, ensuring durable link roads that prevent waterlogging.
Transparency: The CM Flying Squad and a dedicated Quality Control Cell are conducting surprise inspections to ensure that every penny of the ₹16,209 crore budget is utilized effectively.
Boosting the Rural Economy
The primary objective of this massive infrastructure drive is to enhance connectivity between rural hubs and urban markets. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government aims to transform Punjab into a state with world-class road safety standards, including reflective lane markings and high-quality surfacing.
As the June 30 deadline nears, the PWD has been directed to draw up weekly progress reports, with the Minister himself monitoring the physical and financial targets to ensure the “Road Revolution” reaches every corner of Punjab.
