Punjab Vigilance Bureau nabs ASI taking Rs. 20,000 bribes for submitting cancellation report of police case

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has arrested an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Amrik Singh, posted at police station Patran, Patiala district, red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Ashok Kumar, a resident of Patran town, District Patiala.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that a case had been registered against him and his associates at the Patran police station and the aforementioned police official was demanding a bribe of 20,000 to submit a cancellation report in the court pertaining to his case.

The spokesperson added that after a preliminary inquiry into this complaint, a VB team laid a trap during which the accused ASI Amrik Singh was arrested while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case has been registered against the accused under prevention of corruption act at VB police station Patiala range and further investigation into this case was under progress.
