Rajasthan Assembly by-polls-2024, ‘Action plan to be made for quick analysis of live webcasting of voting

In Rajasthan, live webcasting will be arranged at more than half of the polling stations for free, fair and fearless voting during the by-elections in 7 assembly constituencies. An action plan will be prepared at the local level for quick positive action by analyzing the live feed of the voting process by the concerned election officer and local police.

Chief Electoral Officer Naveen Mahajan gave instructions to the district election officers and police officers in a review meeting of the preparations for the by-election on Tuesday. The meeting discussed in detail about increasing the voting percentage in all the 7 assembly constituencies, conducting awareness activities, identification of sensitive polling stations, increasing action on seizure of illegal cash, liquor, narcotics, free distribution items for the purpose of influencing the elections.

The meeting was attended by ADC Doda Kishori Lal Sharma, CPO Doda Parshotam Kumar, PO ICDS Shahida Parveen, ACR Doda Kaiser Ahmed Bhawani, SDM’s besides other District and Sectoral officers.

With the help of webcasting, effective and quick action can be taken

Shri Mahajan informed that in view of the sensitivity of the elections, arrangements are being made for live webcasting at 1,122 out of the total 1,938 polling stations in all the 7 constituencies. He emphasized on preparing standard operating procedures (SOPs) at the assembly constituency or police station level to analyze the webcast live feed in real time and take positive action on it to make this activity more meaningful.

He said that the SOP should be prepared and implemented jointly by the concerned District Election Officer and Superintendent of Police. More effective and quick action will be taken according to the local situation and geographical situation.

Expedite the seizure of illegal cash, liquor and items of free distribution

The Chief Electoral Officer said that 735 sensitive polling stations have been identified in all the 7 assembly constituencies. He directed the Flying Squads (FS) and Static Surveillance Teams (SST) as well as other enforcement agencies including Excise Department, Transport Department to expedite the seizure of illegal cash, liquor and other free distribution items in order to prevent influence of elections through use of money power in these polling stations and other areas.

Mahajan said that all the standards for law and security arrangements should be met for the elections in a peaceful and fair atmosphere in all the assembly constituencies. For this, adequate security forces will be provided to the local authorities. Additional central forces will also be requisitioned as per requirement, he said.

District election officers gave presentations on the preparations

In the review meeting, the District Election Officers and Superintendents of Police gave a presentation on the preparations for the by-elections and the reasons for the low polling percentage in the respective assembly constituencies. Enhancing the voting percentage at these polling stations, conducting awareness activities at various levels and innovations for the same in local conditions were discussed in detail.

Police officials gave information about sensitive polling stations and security arrangements.

Action is being taken as per the directions of the Election Commission against those accused of suspicious electoral conduct and serious offences, he said.

The Chief Electoral Officer gave special instructions that the rule of ‘paid holiday’ should be followed on the polling day so that the citizens, especially those working in the industrial areas, can exercise their franchise freely. He directed the district election officers to restrict the operators of various enterprises for this.

The observers of the Election Commission appreciated

The General Observers of the Election Commission of India praised the efforts being made to increase the voting percentage in various Assembly Constituencies and the innovations being made for awareness. For this, he highlighted the appeals, phone and mobile messages etc. being made to the migrants coming to their native places during Diwali to stay till voting. He expressed satisfaction over the election preparedness, security and law and order situation.
