Jaipur, Rajasthan — A devastating fire broke out at the trauma centre of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur, resulting in the tragic loss of six lives. The incident, reportedly caused by a short circuit, has prompted swift action from Rajasthan’s top leadership, including Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.
Following the fire, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the hospital to assess the situation and extend support to the victims and their families. He took to social media to express his condolences and assure the public that proper treatment and care are being provided to the injured patients.
In an official statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Sharma described the fire as “extremely unfortunate” and confirmed that relief efforts are underway. “Upon reaching the hospital, I gathered information from doctors and officials and issued instructions to ensure swift relief efforts,” he wrote. “Every possible step is being taken for the safety of patients, their treatment, and the care of those affected, and the situation is being continuously monitored.”

Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa, who accompanied Sharma to the hospital, echoed these sentiments. Bairwa assured that all efforts are being made to ensure the well-being of the patients and offered condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
The hospital fire occurred late at night in one of the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) at SMS Hospital, one of Rajasthan’s premier healthcare facilities. Police officials have attributed the fire to a short circuit, though an official probe has been launched to determine the exact cause.
In response to the incident, the Rajasthan government has constituted a six-member committee tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and recommending measures to prevent future occurrences.
