RAJASTHAN GOVT : To maintain the prestige and glorious tradition of Jaipur, arrangements will be made for proper rehabilitation of persons engaged in begging. District Collector Dr. Jitendra Kumar Soni has directed the departmental officers to make all possible efforts with coordination and cooperation to make the district beggary free.
At a meeting held at the Collectorate on Wednesday, he stressed the need for effective rehabilitation of those engaged in begging so that they could lead a dignified life based on their abilities and hard work. He directed the police and traffic police to identify such persons and cooperate in the rescue operation and take strict legal action if found involved in criminal activities.
Municipal officials were directed to ensure cleanliness of rehabilitation homes, repair of toilets and provision of other basic amenities. Apart from this, these rehabilitation homes were asked to provide adequate food by linking them with Annapurna Rasoi Yojana and provide employment and self-employment opportunities by giving skill training to the persons involved in begging.
The Medical Department was directed to make arrangements for health check-up and treatment of persons engaged in begging, connect the rehabilitation homes with the nearest government hospitals and ensure medical facilities there.
The District Child Protection Unit was directed to prepare a list of children involved in begging and provide it to the Education Department and admit them in children’s homes, destitute homes or local schools so that they can join education.
The Social Justice and Empowerment Department was directed to conduct a survey of persons indulging in beggary in collaboration with the police, voluntary organisations and other departments, shift them to rehabilitation homes, women’s homes, old age homes, mental detention homes etc. and link them to social security schemes.
The Rajasthan Skill and Livelihood Development Corporation was directed to conduct residential training programmes for the identified persons and link the trained persons with self-employment schemes, loan and grant programmes.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the district administration, police, municipal corporation, social justice and empowerment department, medical and health department, child protection unit and various voluntary organisations.
