Under the leadership of CM Bhajanlal Sharma, the Rajasthan govt is working with full commitment towards the welfare of farmers.
Rajasthan govt ,Despite adverse conditions, farmers ensure food security for all, but their produce often suffers losses due to unpredictable weather and limited storage capacity. To address this challenge, large-scale construction of warehouses is being carried out in the cooperative sector to enhance grain storage capacity in the state.
Rajasthan govt: As part of the ‘Sahkar Se Samriddhi’ initiative, the Government of India is implementing the world’s largest grain storage scheme in the cooperative sector. Special efforts are being made under the Chief Minister’s guidance to ensure Rajasthan’s farmers benefit from this ambitious scheme and that their produce remains safe. Districts with lower storage capacity compared to production have been given priority under this government-funded initiative.
In the 2024–25 state budget, ₹31 crore was allocated for the construction of 100 warehouses with a capacity of 500 metric tonnes each, along with the renovation of 50 dilapidated warehouses of 100 MT capacity. In the 2025–26 budget, ₹45 crore was earmarked for constructing 100 warehouses of 500 MT, 50 warehouses of 250 MT, and 100 warehouses of 100 MT capacity. Additionally, approval has been granted for 48 warehouses of 500 MT under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
The target is to create an additional 1,61,500 MT of storage capacity in 2024–25 and 2025–26. Of the 100 warehouses (500 MT each) announced in the 2024–25 budget, 36 have already been completed, with 24 inaugurated by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on July 17. Renovation work for the 50 warehouses (100 MT each) announced in 2024–25 is underway. In the 2025–26 budget, approvals have been issued for 47 warehouses of 500 MT, 47 warehouses of 250 MT, and 82 warehouses of 100 MT capacity.
Institutions like NAFED and NCCF have assured priority leasing of these warehouses, while the Cooperative Department has also allowed private sector use under issued SOPs, besides giving preference to government departments and agencies.
The construction of new warehouses will free farmers from the compulsion of distress sales, reduce transportation costs for village cooperative societies, minimize wastage of food grains, and generate rental income for cooperatives. The state government’s initiative of providing 100% subsidy for warehouse construction is being widely appreciated at the national level.
