Veteran actor Rajat Bedi, known for films like Koi… Mil Gaya and Partner, has made a powerful comeback with Aryan Khan’s web series Ba**ds of Bollywood. In a heartfelt interview, Bedi revealed painful details about his early life and the film industry’s indifference following his father’s death.*
Rajat Bedi Recalls Being Abandoned by Bollywood After Father’s Death
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Rajat Bedi shared the emotional story of losing his father, director Narendra Bedi, at the age of nine. Despite Narendra Bedi’s contributions to Hindi cinema with hits like Jawani Diwani, Adalat, and Benaam, Rajat said the Bollywood industry turned its back on his family after his father’s untimely death.
“I was nine when I lost my father. He was only 45. Everyone from the film industry used to visit our home when he was alive. But after his death, no one looked back — except for Prakash Mehra ji,” Bedi revealed. “He supported us financially for almost a year and told my mother not to worry.”
He added that his mother, a housewife, had to raise three children alone, without support from the industry that once praised their family. Rajat called Bollywood an “unforgiving industry” that failed to stand by them in their toughest time.
Rebuilding His Career from Scratch
After years of being away from the limelight, Rajat Bedi re-entered the industry on his own terms. He shared how his journey began when his mother encouraged him to start working and reached out to filmmaker Ramesh Sippy on his behalf.
“I was 18 when I began assisting Ramesh Sippy on Zamaana Deewana, which starred Shah Rukh Khan. I worked closely with SRK for over two years. He used to call me ‘Tiger’ because I was quite aggressive and energetic on set,” Rajat said.

Now, in 2025, Bedi has made his mark in the OTT space with Ba**ds of Bollywood*, a dark satire created by Aryan Khan. The show, which takes a bold jab at the inner workings of the film industry, stars an ensemble cast including Bobby Deol, Raghav Juyal, Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Anya Singh, and Manoj Pahwa. Streaming on Netflix, the series has received critical acclaim for its sharp storytelling and Aryan’s confident direction.
A Story of Resilience and Reinvention
Rajat Bedi’s journey is one of perseverance in the face of personal and professional challenges. Despite being the grandson of literary legend Rajinder Singh Bedi and the son of a celebrated filmmaker, Rajat had to carve his own path in an industry he describes as “cold and forgetful.”
Yet, through hard work and reinvention, he is back in the spotlight — this time not just as an actor, but as a voice unafraid to call out the industry’s darker realities.
