Rajinikanth reveals Dharman faced 3 director changes before Ashwath Marimuthu. Kamal Haasan produces this highly anticipated Tamil film.
Superstar Rajinikanth has finally opened up about the long and complicated journey behind his upcoming film Dharman, produced by Kamal Haasan. The project, which has already become one of the most talked-about collaborations in Indian cinema, went through multiple creative shifts before Ashwath Marimuthu was officially confirmed as the director.
According to Rajinikanth, the film initially began its development with veteran filmmaker KS Ravikumar. However, the collaboration could not move forward as planned. Later, director Sundar C was brought on board, but due to delays in other commitments, he eventually stepped away from the project.
The team then moved to Cibi Chakravarthi, who reportedly developed a strong storyline. However, Rajinikanth explained that the subject turned out to be extremely sensitive and required extensive international shooting schedules. The story revolved around a nuclear scientist and nuclear weapons, with planned shoots in locations such as Afghanistan and Russia. Due to the complexity and sensitivity of the theme, the project was temporarily postponed.

Finally, the makers decided to move ahead with Ashwath Marimuthu, who is now officially directing Dharman. Rajinikanth confirmed that the current version of the film has been shaped with Ashwath’s creative vision, bringing stability to the long-delayed project.
Director Ashwath Marimuthu also shared his excitement at the launch event, expressing that working with Rajinikanth has been a dream come true. He revealed that the superstar personally encouraged him before the final pitch, emphasizing determination and confidence in the project.
He also praised both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for their youthful energy and passion, noting that despite their decades-long careers, they remain deeply involved and enthusiastic about filmmaking.
The first-look poster of Dharman has already created a strong buzz. It shows Rajinikanth in a surgical outfit inside an operation theatre, holding a blood-stained scalpel. The intense visuals hint at a dark, dramatic storyline, further increasing anticipation around the film.
Produced by Kamal Haasan under Raaj Kamal Films International, Dharman is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious projects in recent times. The film also features Simran and Raashii Khanna in key roles.
With Ashwath Marimuthu now at the helm, Dharman is expected to bring a fresh cinematic vision to the screen. The collaboration between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan has already made it one of the most awaited films in Indian cinema.
Apart from Dharman, Rajinikanth also has multiple big projects lined up, including Jailer 2 and another much-anticipated reunion film with Kamal Haasan directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.
The industry now eagerly awaits further updates on the shooting schedule and release timeline of this landmark project.
