Rakesh Bedi clarifies the shoulder kiss controversy with Sara Arjun at Dhurandhar 2 event and celebrates the film’s massive success.
Actor Rakesh Bedi has addressed the controversy surrounding his interaction with co-star Sara Arjun at the trailer launch of Dhurandhar 2, insisting that the moment was completely misinterpreted. The veteran actor, now basking in the success of Aditya Dhar’s action-packed sequel, emphasized that his gesture was always meant as a fatherly greeting.
During the event last November, a viral clip showed Rakesh leaning in to greet 20-year-old Sara Arjun on stage. Social media users claimed it appeared that he kissed her shoulder, sparking widespread criticism. Rakesh, however, explained that his actions were consistent with how he treated Sara during filming.
“There was a small incident. The girl who plays my daughter in Dhurandhar, Sara Arjun, I would always hug her and kiss her forehead while shooting, like a father. At the trailer launch, I did the same, but people misinterpreted it,” Rakesh told Red FM.
The actor further acknowledged that while some users criticized the gesture, others came forward to defend him. “Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna. Thankfully, many people understood my intent. Dhurandhar 2’s success is definitely a pleasant surprise. A hit like this doesn’t come often in anyone’s life,” he added.
Dhurandhar 2, released on March 19 in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, has emerged as a blockbuster. The spy-action thriller continues the story of Ranveer Singh’s character, Hamza Ali Mazari, as he dismantles terror networks in Pakistan while navigating Lyari’s shifting underworld dynamics.

The sequel also stars Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Danish Pandor, and Sanjay Dutt. Opening to overwhelmingly positive reviews, Dhurandhar 2 has already grossed over ₹500 crore in India alone. Fans and critics alike praised the film’s gripping narrative, high-octane action sequences, and compelling performances.
Reflecting on the controversy and the film’s success, Rakesh Bedi stated, “Why would I kiss her with ill intent on stage? Her parents were present. People just create issues out of nothing. My focus was always on performing my role and supporting my co-stars. Dhurandhar 2’s triumph is a reward for all the hard work that went into this project.”
With the Dhurandhar 2 craze sweeping theaters nationwide, the actor hopes that audiences focus on the storytelling, performances, and cinematic experience rather than online controversies.
The shoulder kiss incident may have sparked debates, but Rakesh Bedi’s explanation reinforces that the Dhurandhar franchise’s success and stellar performances remain the true highlight.
