Delhi’s BJP government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has completed one year in office. During this period, the government has successfully delivered on five of its seven key election promises, focusing on social welfare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Ayushman Vay Vandana, Chief Minister Maternity Security Scheme, free LPG cylinders for underprivileged women, and Atal Canteens.
The BJP had promised seven major welfare initiatives in its election manifesto. Out of these, five have been fully implemented while two are still in progress. The government claims that adequate funds have been allocated in the budget to ensure these schemes improve the living standards of Delhi residents. Several initiatives have already been rolled out, while others are in the pipeline.
Key Completed Welfare Initiatives
Ayushman Bharat Scheme: In line with its election promise, the Rekha Gupta government approved the implementation of the central government’s Ayushman Bharat scheme during its first cabinet meeting. The state government provided an additional ₹5 lakh, bringing the total benefit to ₹10 lakh per beneficiary for free treatment.
Ayushman Vay Vandana Scheme: This scheme, targeting senior citizens above 70 years, provides free medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh along with complimentary outpatient and diagnostic services. It has now been fully implemented in Delhi.
Chief Minister Maternity Security Scheme: Pregnant women are entitled to ₹21,000 and six nutrition kits under this scheme. Over 83,700 beneficiaries have registered so far, and ₹31.68 crore has been disbursed directly to mothers via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Free LPG Cylinders for Underprivileged Women: The government has promised to provide two free LPG cylinders annually to women from economically weaker sections, particularly during Holi and Diwali. Each additional cylinder is available at ₹500. The scheme has started implementation and will benefit thousands of households.

Atal Canteens for Affordable Nutrition: On former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s 101st birth anniversary, the Atal Canteen initiative was launched to provide nutritious meals at just ₹5 in slum areas. So far, 95 canteens have been opened, serving thousands of people daily.
Pending Schemes
Mahila Samriddhi Yojana: The BJP had promised a monthly benefit of ₹2,500 to underprivileged women. The cabinet approved a budget of ₹5,100 crore for this scheme last year, and eligibility criteria are currently being finalized by a three-member ministerial committee. Implementation will begin based on the committee’s recommendations.
Increase in Monthly Pensions: The government also pledged to increase monthly pensions for senior citizens. Currently, individuals aged 60–70 will see their monthly support rise from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500, while those over 70, widows, destitute persons, and differently-abled individuals will receive ₹3,000 per month. Officials are finalizing the payment rollout plan.
Focus on Transparency and Welfare
The Rekha Gupta government emphasizes results over promises, with a vision to enhance governance and social services in Delhi. With five key welfare schemes already successfully implemented, the government is actively working to fulfill the remaining two promises, ensuring Delhi residents experience tangible improvements in health, nutrition, and social security.
The one-year performance highlights the government’s commitment to improving quality of life, continuing the mission of welfare and development for all citizens of Delhi.
