Yogi Adityanath says RSS does not receive foreign funding and runs solely on social support, responding to Congress leader Priyank Kharge’s transparency allegations.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday delivered a sharp rebuttal to the Congress, asserting that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functions entirely on public support and does not accept foreign or institutional funding. His remarks came during the ‘Gita Prerna Mahotsav’ held in Lucknow, where RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat was also present.
“RSS Runs on Social Strength, Not Foreign Money”: Yogi Adityanath
Speaking at the event, Adityanath stressed that the RSS has always been a volunteer-driven organisation, fueled solely by the contributions and participation of society. “They ask about funding… We say there is no funding pattern. No OPEC country and no international church funds it. The RSS stands on the strength of society and works with a spirit of service,”
Adityanath said, as quoted by PTI.
His comments appeared to be a direct response to recent criticism by Congress leader Priyank Kharge, who questioned the transparency and registration status of the RSS.

Congress Leader Priyank Kharge’s Remarks Spark Debate
Just days earlier, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge took a swipe at the RSS on social media, calling it an “unregistered and unaccountable” organisation. In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Kharge wrote: “If the RSS truly serves the nation selflessly, why not register like the lakhs of NGOs that work transparently and lawfully? Where do their donations come from and who are the donors?”
His comments triggered fresh political friction between the Congress and the BJP’s ideological mentor.
Adityanath Defends RSS, Calls It a Symbol of Indian Values
Responding indirectly to the criticism, Adityanath said the RSS has always served people in distress, without discrimination based on religion or community. He also linked its ethos to India’s age-old civilisational values. “We have always welcomed whoever came seeking refuge. ‘Jiyo aur jeene do’ and ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ are messages India has given to the world,”
the chief minister said.
He added that India’s spiritual heritage encourages people to act responsibly, follow moral conduct, and serve humanity.
RSS and BJP–Congress Political Tussle Continues
Yogi Adityanath’s remarks are the latest in an ongoing war of words between the BJP and Congress regarding the role, transparency, and influence of the RSS. With political temperatures rising ahead of key elections, both sides continue to trade barbs over ideological and organisational issues.
