In a significant move to strengthen the leadership pipeline and team synergy of India’s steel giant, the Management Training Institute (MTI) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has officially renewed its partnership with the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF).
The two organizations signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to continue delivering high-impact outbound leadership and experiential learning programmes for SAIL employees. This collaboration, which has been thriving since 2017, aims to bridge the gap between traditional management training and real-world resilience through outdoor adventure.
Key Highlights of the SAIL-TSAF MoU
The renewed agreement extends the successful partnership for another two years, ensuring that SAIL executives continue to benefit from TSAF’s world-class outdoor expertise.
Validity: January 25, 2026, to January 25, 2028.
Focus Areas: Leadership development, team building, personal growth, and managerial competence.
Legacy: Over 100 courses conducted and 2,000+ employees trained since 2017.
Methodology: Experiential learning through high-altitude trekking and wilderness survival.
Strengthening Corporate Leadership via Nature
The core philosophy of this partnership is “Learning by Doing.” By moving away from the boardroom and into the wilderness, SAIL employees are pushed out of their comfort zones to develop critical soft skills.
Sanjay Dhar, Executive Director (HR–L&D) at MTI-SAIL, and D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President – Corporate Services at Tata Steel and Chairman of TSAF, signed the document on behalf of their respective organizations.
“These programmes are designed to enrich management development initiatives and enhance the managerial competence of our employees by fostering resilience and collaboration in challenging environments,” noted a SAIL representative during the signing ceremony.
A Proven Track Record of Success
TSAF’s association with SAIL dates back nearly a decade. Since the inception of this collaboration, TSAF has utilized the rugged terrains of the Himalayas and other outdoor settings to simulate high-pressure corporate scenarios. The results have been tangible:
Enhanced Synergy: Improved inter-departmental cooperation within SAIL plants.
Leadership Readiness: Identification and nurturing of future-ready leaders.
Engagement: Higher employee morale and engagement scores across the organization.
Distinguished Presence at the Ceremony
The signing event was attended by senior leadership from both corporate giants, underscoring the importance of this HR intervention.
