Karthi’s highly anticipated action thriller Sardar 2, directed by PS Mithran, has officially locked its release date. The sequel to the 2022 hit will hit theatres worldwide on September 10, the makers confirmed on Wednesday.
Karthi unveils release date with intense teaser
Actor Karthi announced the release date of Sardar 2 through a short teaser video shared on social media. The clip features explosive action visuals and shows Karthi in a powerful avatar, holding a gun and appearing in dual roles.
He captioned the post, “#Sardar2 ARRIVES…Worldwide in theatres on September 10!”
In the sequel, Karthi reprises his role as the legendary Agent Sardar (Chandra Bose), while also portraying a younger character named Vijay Prakash, continuing the dual-role concept from the first film.
Star cast and production details
Directed by PS Mithran, Sardar 2 features a strong ensemble cast including Rajisha Vijayan, SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, and Ashika Ranganath. The film’s screenplay has been developed by Rathna Kumar, Ashameera Aiyappan, Vignesh Muniyandi, and Nambi.
The project is jointly produced by Prince Pictures and IVY Entertainment. The sequel follows the success of Sardar (2022), which earned over ₹84.50 crore worldwide and remains one of Karthi’s biggest commercial hits.

Big box office clash on the horizon
The release of Sardar 2 sets up a major box office clash in South Indian cinema. The film will arrive just days after Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, scheduled for August 26.
Adding to the competition, Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s pan-India film Ranabaali is slated for release on September 11, creating a tightly packed release window across multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi.
Tragic incident on set
The production of Sardar 2 faced an unfortunate setback early in its shoot when stuntman Ezhumalai died following an accident on set at Prasad Labs in Chennai. The incident occurred during an action sequence where he fell from a 20-foot rostrum.
Following the tragedy, actor Karthi visited the bereaved family to offer condolences. The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) temporarily halted the shoot and later organized a safety awareness meeting for industry technicians and artists in Chennai.
