Foods You Can Eat
During the fast, devotees can consume fresh fruits, milk, curd, paneer, buttermilk, and vrat-friendly foods like sabudana, kuttu flour, singhara flour, and sama rice. Vegetables such as potato, sweet potato, bottle gourd, pumpkin, tomato, and arbi are also commonly eaten. Dry fruits, makhana, peanuts, and rock salt (sendha namak) are allowed.

Foods to Avoid
Regular grains, pulses, onion, garlic, turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and garam masala are traditionally avoided during the Sawan Somwar fast.

Devotees begin the day with an early bath, offer water and Belpatra to Lord Shiva, recite the Shiv Chalisa, perform Shiva Aarti, and read the Sawan Somwar Vrat Katha. Maintaining purity, devotion, and self-discipline throughout the day is considered essential.
