Election Commission team reviews the voter list revision program in the State, gives necessary directions to the concerned officers

District Election Officers from all districts gave presentations on their respective areas

Chandigarh, July 13 –

Senior Deputy Election Commissioner of India, Sh. Nitesh Vyas, and Deputy Election Commissioner, Sh. Hridesh Kumar conducted a review meeting with the Haryana Chief Electoral Officer, Sh. Pankaj Agarwal, and all District Election Officers, regarding the second special summary revision program of the voter list 2024.

The senior officers from the Election Commission congratulated the Haryana Chief Electoral Officer and the entire election team for conducting peaceful and fair Lok Sabha elections in the state.

During the meeting, all District Election Officers presented detailed PowerPoint presentations on the ongoing voter list revision activities and progress in their respective districts.

In the meeting, the senior officers from the Election Commission reviewed various aspects of the second special summary revision program, including updating voter lists, door-to-door verification, digitization, distribution of ID cards, necessary facilities at polling stations, resolution of public grievances, and voter turnout in Lok Sabha elections and gave necessary guidelines. All pending applications related to voter registration were asked to be executed in mission mode. All District Election Officers were directed to ensure the publication of error-free and updated voter list.

It was directed that District Election Officers should conduct special awareness campaigns to register youth,  persons with disabilities (PwD), women, and other groups to create an inclusive voter list. Also, all districts should take effective initiatives to get 100 percent students of universities and colleges registered in the voter list. The senior officers emphasised the need to improve coordination between BLOs and voters as well.

During the meeting the district election officers were also directed to hold regular meetings with political parties, address their concerns appropriately, and provide them with updated information regularly.

The senior officers from the Election Commission directed state and district teams to monitor the distribution of voter ID cards regularly. If there are delays in distribution beyond the stipulated time, coordination with the post office should be ensured to expedite the process. It was also directed to resolve all public grievances related to voter registration or voter ID cards promptly, regardless of the medium through which they were received.

Senior Deputy Election Commissioner of India, Sh. Nitesh Vyas emphasised the need to establish polling stations in urban housing societies, skyscrapers, and slum areas as per the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India. He stated that a well-conducted and error-free voter list revision program would result in a better voter turnout.

Chief Electoral Officer, Sh. Pankaj Agarwal assured the team of senior officers from the Commission that strict adherence to the guidelines given by them will be ensured. He thanked the officers from the Commission for guiding the state officers and visiting the state.

Pawan Diwan and Sh. K. P. Singh, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Sh. Apurv and Sh. Raj Kumar, along with all the District Electoral Officers of the state, Municipal Commissioners, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat and Panchkula and other officers of the Chief Electoral Officer’s remained present during the meeting.
