Shah Rukh Khan: Mumbai Police file extortion case and summon a man from Raipur after a caller demands Rs 50 lakh.
Mumbai police said Thursday that an extortion case has been filed against Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan after he received a death threat and a demand for Rs 50 lakh.
According to a top police official from the capital of Chhattisgarh, the Mumbai police have also called in a man from Raipur in this regard.
Shah Rukh Khan was threatened after Salman Khan, another actor, received a string of threats purportedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
A call demanding Rs 50 lakh and threatening Shah Rukh Khan was received by the Bandra police station. A registered offense has been committed. According to a senior police official, no arrests have been made as of yet.
According to the official, the caller who threatened Shah Rukh Khan has been charged by the Bandra police under sections 308(4) (extortion containing threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to him, police teams have been sent to other locations for more investigation.
Although Mumbai police did not corroborate allegations that the call originated in Chhattisgarh, a Raipur police official stated that their counterparts from the Maharashtra capital served a notice to a city resident on Thursday regarding the matter.
A man named Faiyaz Khan, who resides within the boundaries of the Bandra police station here, was summoned by Mumbai police to Raipur as part of their probe into the threat to Shah Rukh Khan, Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh told.
As per preliminary information, the threat call to the actor was made from a phone number registered in the name of Faiyaz, he said.
According to Singh, Faiyaz has been asked to appear for questioning at Bandra police station
