Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the great influence that the renowned Shri Shaligram Tomar Ji—the founder of the Vidyarthi Parishad—had on each and every pupil he trained. Dr. Yadav highlighted Shaligram Ji’s humane methods, including embracing his employees’ innate goodness and forgiving them of their errors. He lauded Shaligram Ji’s commitment to identifying each student’s assets and areas of weakness in order to develop their personalities holistically. Speaking at the “Shaligram Tomar Smriti Samaroh” at Manas Bhawan, Dr. Yadav was hosted by Navlay Sanstha. He lit a lamp in honor of Ma Bharti to start the ceremony and paid respect to the pictures of Shri Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Shri Shaligram Tomar. Senior Vidyarthi Parishad employee Shri Suryakant Kelkar was awarded the coveted Shaligram Tomar Smriti Rashtriya Sevi Samman by Dr. Yadav, who also gave him a certificate of honor, a shawl, and a souvenir. Shaligram Tomar’s wife, Smt. Shanta Tomar, as well as other family members, MP Shri Brij Mohan Agarwal, Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao, and other notable individuals and organization representatives graced the occasion.

By allowing the workers to stay in contact with their families when they were detained during the Emergency, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav claimed that Shri Shaligram ji significantly contributed to the workers’ morale. In 1978, the responsibility of ‘Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’ was given to Shri Shaligram ji. He bolstered the work of the Vidhyarthi Parishad in Uttar Pradesh and organized numerous programmes in Mahakaushal, Madhya Pradesh, and Orissa. A large number of the activists that arose during this time later gained notoriety in society and politics.

Dr. Mallika Nadda, a social worker and senior leader, highlighted Shri Shaligram Tomar Ji’s consideration for the work of female employees and pupils. She described how he instilled in them a sense of obligation to serve the country in addition to encouraging diligence. With the goal of further empowering women workers, Shaligram Ji actively encouraged possibilities for female students to work as organization secretaries. Dr. Nadda cited Shaligram Ji’s advice to pursue leadership roles in one’s chosen sector and to investigate a variety of subjects outside of politics.

According to Shri Arun Sao, the deputy chief minister of Chhattisgarh, Shri Shaligram Tomar ji went above and beyond in serving the needs of the students. He faced several challenging circumstances in his life.

During the program, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav planted a sapling to spread the message of preserving and supporting nature. A souvenir and a sapling were presented to CM Dr. Yadav to mark the occasion. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav gave Smt. Shanta Tomar, the wife of Shri Shaligram ji, a shawl, a souvenir, and a shrifal as a token of appreciation. Also published by CM Dr. Yadav is the periodical “Navalya Anubodh”.

During the ceremony, many senior Vidhyarthi Parishad workers from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, along with Shri Abhay Mahajan, recounted their memories. Several Vidhyarthi Parishad employees as well as former MP Sushri Pragya Thakur attended the event.
