Siddhant Chaturvedi Reflects on His Shelved Debut Film and the Emotional Toll
Actor Siddhant Chaturvedi, who became a household name for his breakthrough role as MC Sher in Gully Boy and for his performance in Kho Gaye Hum Kaha, recently revealed the emotional toll of his early career setback. Before rising to fame, Siddhant Chaturvedi had secured a major debut in a big-budget film at the age of 21. But after six months of intense preparation, including styling his hair and wardrobe to match the character, the film was abruptly shelved. This unexpected turn left him devastated.
How Siddhant Chaturvedi Overcame His First Major Setback
In an interview with Mashable India, Siddhant Chaturvedi recounted how deeply the cancellation affected him. “I had started to live the character, not just on set, but in real life too,” he said, describing how he was emotionally attached to the role. The sudden abandonment of the project shattered his sense of direction. The reminder of the lost opportunity, reflected back to him daily in the mirror, was too much to bear. To mark his emotional break from the past, Siddhant decided to shave his head. This drastic decision helped him release the pain associated with the character and the failed project.
The next few months were a period of introspection for Siddhant, whom he described as entering a “Zen mode.” During this time, he withdrew from the chaos of the entertainment industry to reflect on his future. Siddhant found himself caught between two worlds—his mother urging him to return to his childhood career path of Chartered Accountancy (CA), and his father encouraging him to stay true to his dream of acting. Siddhant had to reconcile these conflicting paths and ultimately chose to remain focused on his passion for the arts.
Despite the initial setback, Siddhant Chaturvedi’s determination never wavered. He found his calling with the hit web series Inside Edge, which introduced him to a wider audience. This success was followed by his breakout role in Gully Boy, where he played the iconic role of MC Sher, a performance that turned him into a star overnight. His acting chops and commitment to his craft soon caught the attention of major filmmakers, leading to subsequent roles in projects like Bunty Aur Babli 2 and Gehraiyaan.
