Sundar Pichai Eyes iPhone Deal to Bring Gemini AI to Apple Devices
New Delhi | May 3, 2025 — In a major development, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has revealed that Gemini, the company’s flagship AI platform, may soon be integrated into Apple’s iPhones. Speaking during the ongoing U.S. antitrust trial against Google, Sundar Pichai confirmed that talks with Apple are underway, and both companies are aiming for a potential agreement by mid-2025.
The trial, led by the U.S. Department of Justice, is primarily focused on Google’s search engine dominance. But it also shed light on a broader strategy: expanding Google’s AI tools beyond Android and into rival ecosystems. Sundar Pichai stated that Gemini could serve as an AI option alongside Apple’s proprietary system, which already supports features like Siri and the new Writing Tools integrated with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
“I’ve had a series of conversations with Tim Cook last year,” Sundar Pichai said. “I’m hopeful we can get Gemini added as an option this year.”
This move would mark a significant shift in Apple-Google relations. Despite being long-time competitors, the companies have collaborated in the past—Google services were baked into iPhones as early as 2007. Their multi-billion dollar deal to keep Google as Safari’s default search engine is currently under legal scrutiny, but the prospect of integrating Gemini shows that business cooperation still has room to grow.
If successful, this deal could allow Apple users access to Gemini’s powerful generative AI capabilities—ranging from smarter voice commands to real-time content creation—without replacing Siri entirely. Apple’s strategy, it seems, is to offer users AI choices rather than locking them into a single model.
Tech analysts view this as a win-win. For Google, it’s a chance to extend Gemini’s reach to hundreds of millions of iOS users. For Apple, it strengthens their AI offerings without needing to build all solutions in-house.
An official announcement may come as early as June during Apple’s WWDC event, where updates for iOS 19 and other platforms will be revealed.
