Universal Confirms Next Mario Adventure: Super Mario Galaxy Movie Coming April 2026
The sequel to Universal’s record-breaking animated hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, now has an official title: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The announcement came on Friday during a Nintendo Direct event, just ahead of the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. video game, which launched on September 13, 1985.

Super Mario Bros – Release Date and Production Details
The animated adventure from Universal and Illumination is slated for a theatrical release on April 3, 2026. Returning fans can expect the familiar charm of the Mushroom Kingdom, this time with a cosmic twist inspired by Nintendo’s 2007 Wii game, Super Mario Galaxy.
Teaser Reveals New Cosmic Adventure
The Nintendo Direct began with a teaser for the film, giving fans their first glimpse of the new storyline. Mario, voiced by Chris Pratt, is seen napping under a tree, with Princess Peach’s castle visible in the distance. As the camera pans up toward space, viewers catch quick shots of familiar characters and enemies, including a Monty Mole burrowing underground, Cheep Cheeps swimming in a stream, and Toads scurrying around the castle grounds.
This sequel promises to take audiences on a galactic adventure while maintaining the whimsical humor and heartwarming moments that made the first movie a hit.
