Removal of ‘India’s Got Latent’ Episodes
Earlier this year, Raina had removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel after the show faced backlash due to a controversial remark made by influencer Ranveer Allahbadia. Allahbadia’s distasteful joke involving parents sparked widespread criticism and triggered a chain of reactions involving the show’s cast and crew.
Samay Raina’s Response and Cooperation
In his first public response since the controversy escalated, the 27-year-old comedian expressed remorse and pledged full cooperation with investigating agencies. Posting on social media platform X, Raina stated,
“Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
Supreme Court Summons to Multiple Comedians
The Supreme Court’s summons is not limited to Raina alone. Other stand-up comedians — Nishant Jagdish Tanwar, Sonali Thakar, Vipul Goyal, and Balraj Paramjeet Singh Ghai — have also been called to address allegations of mocking disabled people. During the proceedings, Justice Surya Kant expressed concern, stating,
“We are really disturbed by the allegations. We place such instances on record, implead the concerned persons, and suggest measures. Then we will see.”
Appearance Before Maharashtra Cyber Police and Regret
Adding to the ongoing probe, Samay Raina appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Police in Navi Mumbai, where he expressed regret over the offensive remarks made during the show. He clarified that the comment was made in the heat of the moment without any intent to offend.
“I feel deep regret for what I said. It happened in the flow of the show, and I had no intention of saying it,” Raina said in his statement. “I realise that what I said was wrong.”
