Five Years On, Sushant Singh Rajput Case Back in Court: Rhea Chakraborty Served Notice
The long-dormant Sushant Singh Rajput case is back in media focus, as a Mumbai magistrate court issued a notice to actress Rhea Chakraborty in connection with the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) closure report.

The case, which has remained in public and legal discussion since Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely death in June 2020, took a new turn when the CBI, earlier this year in March, submitted a report stating that no criminality could be established in relation to Chakraborty’s 2020 complaint. The complaint had alleged that Sushant’s sisters and a Delhi-based doctor were involved in facilitating the procurement of medication without proper medical authorization.
While the CBI has closed the matter from its end, the court is following due process by seeking a formal response from Chakraborty, the original complainant in the case. Magistrate R D Chavan, during the hearing, stated, “Issue notice to the original informant / victim / aggrieved person.” The notice grants Chakraborty the opportunity to raise objections or challenge the closure.
The case has now been adjourned until the court receives confirmation that the notice has been delivered. Rhea Chakraborty has been directed to submit her response by August 12, 2025.
This procedural move once again brings the high-profile case into the spotlight, nearly five years after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, which had sparked intense media coverage, public outrage, and a nationwide conversation on mental health, nepotism, and the pressures of the film industry.
