Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated the Surajkund Diwali Mela, urging people to buy Made-in-India products to support artisans and promote self-reliance. The mela celebrates local culture, business, and the Swadeshi movement’s role in India’s prosperity.
The Diwali Mela, which will run until October 7, serves as a vibrant platform celebrating Indian culture, local businesses, and traditional art forms. CM Nayab Singh Saini highlighted that such events not only promote the festive spirit but also uplift artisans by giving them wider visibility and market access. “When you buy products here, you support the craftsmen directly and contribute to building a self-reliant India,” he remarked.
Drawing inspiration from history, the Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reminded the audience that the Swadeshi movement was instrumental in strengthening India’s independence struggle. “History tells us that when India was known as the golden sparrow, swadeshi played a major role in our prosperity,” he added, urging everyone to carry forward this legacy by embracing indigenous products today.

In line with this vision, Haryana is actively promoting the nationwide “Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan,” a campaign aimed at turning the Swadeshi pledge into a mass movement. This campaign, running from September 25 to December 25, commemorates the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and seeks to inspire citizens across India to support the self-reliance mission.
The Surajkund Diwali Mela stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to boost local trade, preserve cultural heritage, and empower artisans by connecting them with consumers. With over 400 stalls showcasing a variety of handcrafted goods, the mela also strengthens community ties under the theme “We Unite Families,” promoting unity through shared celebration and economic progress.
By championing the cause of Swadeshi and self-reliance, Haryana’s leadership reiterates its dedication to the vision of a prosperous India where traditional crafts flourish alongside modern development.
