The Kerala Story 2 faces criticism from All India Muslim Jamaat over fake narratives; Kerala HC issues notice to CBFC amid communal tension concerns.
The upcoming Hindi film The Kerala Story 2 has ignited widespread debate and controversy, drawing criticism from political leaders, social groups, and religious organizations. The film, a sequel to the divisive hit The Kerala Story, is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 27, 2026.
All India Muslim Jamaat Criticizes the Film
The All India Muslim Jamaat (AIMJ) has strongly condemned the film, claiming it spreads “fake narratives” and fosters communal tensions. AIMJ President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi accused the filmmakers of attempting to defame Muslims for monetary gains, stating, “The Kerala Story 2 is based on false narratives. Today, some directors exploit films to earn money at the cost of communal harmony. These films destroy Hindu-Muslim brotherhood and are part of a planned effort to malign the Muslim community.”
Court Challenges and Legal Proceedings
The film is now facing legal scrutiny. A petition filed in the Kerala High Court seeks to stall its release, claiming that it maligns the state and disrupts social harmony. The petitioner, Sreedev Namboothiri, from Chittariparamba, Kannur, highlighted that while the story revolves around women from three different states in northern India, the title and certain scenes portray Kerala negatively.
The petition reads, “The film tends to alienate Kerala and Keralites from the rest of India, despite their contributions to the country’s economy and society. The filmmakers cannot falsely attribute speculative fears to the state of Kerala or its people.”

Following this, the Kerala High Court issued notices to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the film’s producers, Sunshine Pictures, directing them to respond. The next hearing is scheduled for February 24, 2026.
The Kerala Story 2 Film Synopsis and Controversy
Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond explores themes of forced conversion and personal struggles of women. The teaser, which has been widely circulated, has received mixed reactions. Critics argue that the film exaggerates events, while some believe it depicts real incidents accurately.
Political figures have also expressed their concerns. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor have openly criticised the sequel for potentially misrepresenting the state and spreading communal tension.
As the release date approaches, the debate around The Kerala Story 2 continues to intensify, raising questions about freedom of expression, cinematic responsibility, and the role of films in shaping social narratives.
The legal proceedings in the Kerala High Court will likely play a key role in determining whether the film can release as planned or will face restrictions due to concerns about communal harmony and factual accuracy.
