The Punjab Government has appointed Mr. G. Nageswara Rao, a 1995-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, as the Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau. Prior to this, he served as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Provisioning, Punjab.
According to a statement from the Vigilance Bureau spokesperson, Mr. Rao will succeed Special Director General of Police Mr. Varinder Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer. Mr. Varinder Kumar has been relieved from his duties as Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau and will now report to the Director General of Police, Punjab, Chandigarh, for further assignments.
Mr. G. Nageswara Rao brings extensive experience, having held key positions such as Special Principal Secretary in the Punjab Department of Home Affairs and Justice, Director of the Vigilance Bureau, and DIG/HoB at CBI’s ACB units in Visakhapatnam and Chennai. A Civil Engineering graduate, he has been recognized with several prestigious honors, including the United Nations Medal for his service as a CIVPOL officer in Kosovo in 2004, the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2011 during his CBI deputation, and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2023, both awarded on Republic Day.
