As part of its ongoing “War Against Corruption” initiative, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), in coordination with the Health and Food Safety Department, carried out surprise inspections at food processing factories and shops in Amritsar. The operation specifically targeted unhygienic and unlicensed units producing Soya Chaap and Momos.
A VB spokesperson stated that, following directives from the Punjab Government, joint teams of VB officials and Food Safety Officers conducted raids in different parts of the city, focusing on businesses violating food safety regulations.
During the inspections, wholesale shops in the Rambagh area were checked, and samples of Soya Chaap and Momos were collected and sealed. It was found that several shopkeepers lacked mandatory food safety licenses and were storing food in unsanitary conditions, leading to the issuance of fines.
Additionally, the team raided two Soya Chaap manufacturing units in Angarh, where extremely unhygienic conditions and the absence of valid food safety licenses were discovered. Both factories were immediately sealed, and food samples were collected for further examination.
In total, five samples were taken during the operation and sent to the State Laboratory in Kharar for analysis. Legal proceedings will be initiated against those found guilty based on the test results.
