Vigilance Bureau : The accused had previously accepted a bribe of Rs 10,000.
As part of its ongoing anti-corruption drive, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Kuldeep Singh, a Junior Engineer (J.E) posted at the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) office in Cheema Chowk, Ludhiana, while he was accepting the second installment of a bribe of Rs. 5000.
An official spokesperson from the state VB revealed that the arrest was made following a complaint filed by Jaswinder Pal Singh, a resident of Ram Nagar, Shingar Road in Ludhiana city.
The spokesperson further explained that the complainant had approached the VB, alleging that the accused JE demanded a bribe of Rs 36,000 for installing a new electricity meter at his tea stall, with the final agreement set at Rs 15,000. The complainant also stated that the JE had already received Rs 10,000 as the first installment but had not yet installed the meter, and was now demanding the remaining Rs 5,000.
The spokesperson added that following a preliminary investigation into the complaint, a VB team from Ludhiana set up a trap. The accused JE was caught red-handed at his office while accepting the Rs 5,000 as the second installment of the bribe from the complainant, in the presence of two official witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been filed against the accused at the VB police station in Ludhiana range. The accused is scheduled to be presented in court tomorrow, and further investigation is ongoing.
